deep tan (stylized in lower case) is a post-rock trio who play a lively, uptempo, funky version of the genre. All three instruments are laid out very clearly in their arrangements and stand out distinctly. The bassist Celeste Guinness does a lot of the heavy lifting wrt to the melody and propels the songs as she keeps the ball rolling end to end. The ornamentation, the jangle, the catchy bits mostly all come from guitars played by Wafah Dufour, who drops some surf rock snippets and middle eastern tones into her melodies every now and then. She also handles the vocals in a way that shifts between speak singing and yelping, a little on the Cate Le Bon side at times. The songs are catchy, fun, and come with a slightly surreal edge.
