Navy Blue is the hip-hop artist, producer Sage Elsesser, who among other things, such as being a visual artist, also happens to be a professional skateboarder. Back in the world of hip-hop, he stands out with the deliberate tone and conversational style in his delivery that walks the line between being expressive and emotionally restrained. He is stylistically in the same ballpark as his like-minded peers, MAVI and MIKE. His production is creative; it is rich and lush, but somehow also manages to remain understated. His music often references soul and gospel sounds. He has also been leaning towards a jazz influenced style in recent years. His songs tend to focus on personal matters, drawing from his family history on more than a few occasions.
