Nathaniel Cross is a trombonist who has been working with a number of London-based jazz artists as a musician and arranger over the years, among them his long time friend, drummer Moses Boyd and his brother and tubaist extraordinaire Theon Cross. His first solo work was released in 2021 as the EP, The Description is Not the Described, where he emerged as an artist with an affinity towards the classic post-bop period of jazz as well as some of the more pop oriented work that was taking place in the '80s. Latin and Caribbean influences also make their presence felt in his compositions. He has a clean and warm playing style with arrangements that give more space to the brass section as a whole, focusing on their interplay.
