Nabihah Iqbal

Nabihah Iqbal is a producer, singer, and songwriter whose music covers an eclectic range with house music and dreamy post-punk as the two main pillars. She recorded her earlier work under the moniker Throwing Shade, focusing on deep house style. That is still a part of what she does, though she has been expanding her palette since she started performing under her own name. The dance beats are still there, but she now mixes them with cold wave/post-punk type sound, as well as an occasional touch of ambient, downtempo, and shoegaze. Her arpeggiated guitar also takes a bit of the spotlight as she explores earthy tunes bathed in a sense of melancholy. Sometimes she delivers her vocals in spoken word style, and other times, in reverbed, blurry tones that give her voice a dreamy texture.
