The Moss is a four piece indie rock band based in Salt Lake City, inspired by the classic alt rock of the '90s, especially the melodic, pop-inspired type. They also draw some elements of country and folk; perhaps not too overtly, but enough to give their songs a comfortable and familiar feel. There is a steady romantic undercurrent to their songs amplified by singer Tyke James' wistful vocals. He is an expressive singer with a bit of a rasp in his voice that might suggest a bluesy layer under the surface that never quite comes out into the open. The band has an affinity to keep things on the sweeter side of the fence, though they certainly maintain a somewhat dramatic flair in their instrumentation.
