Mosses Sumney is a singer, guitarist, and keyboardist who, at a high level, brings R&B style ballads against an expansive, ambient friendly backdrop. He grew up in both Accra, Ghana and Riverside, California. It is easy to imagine how this broad range of experiences had an impact on his music, which generally sits between genres. He frequently invokes serene soundscapes (think Bon Iver), adds layers of light jazz passages on the piano or the guitar with some crooning vocals on the side, occasionally extending into classical music boundaries, of getting as close as possible to Nine Inch Nails type industrial beats. This is music that is rich in texture, substance, and emotional depth, presented in a cohesive and distinctive package, but may not work for every palate.
