Mary Lattimore
Outline
Harpist, composer Mary Lattimore makes music with a strong meditative quality. It is serene and mesmerizing in a way that, at times, walks the line between ambient and new age. It is built around her instrument, whose staccato flow and shimmering tones blend into the repetitive nature of her pieces, where musical phrases seem to be folding back on themselves and putting the listener in an inevitable state of trans. Her sound has remained more or less in the same mold over the years even, as a prolific collaborator, she regularly works with a variety of experimental musicians who also tend to fit right into the delicate lattice she constructs. Her output, solo or otherwise, continues to be exquisite and compelling.
