Kate NV

Kate NV is the name Ekaterina Shilonosova of ГШ (Glintshake) uses in her solo work where she explores abstract, avant-garde pop. She is fairly synth-based under this moniker, makes use of loops and found sound segments along the lines of concrete music, and combines them with clear pop tunes. Her third album, Room for the Moon (2020) was a bit of a departure in the way she brought in live musicians including a saxophone and a clarinet, which added a lot of warmth to her music, and depth to her hooks. It also allowed her to rely on her songwriting more than she did in her previous two albums in which sound construction had been the bigger focus. The stand-out album from her early work has to be 2018's для FOR, which leans towards the contemplative and ambient mood where she also incorporates sounds of everyday life from her apartment and around her hometown Moscow.
