L'Rain

L'Rain is the stage name used by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Taja Cheek, who makes music that combines multiple genres and sub-genres into an eclectic but also somewhat experimental sound. She brings in elements from R&B, gospel, electronic music, rock and pop, orchestral music, and ambient, with a knack for creating melodies that swing, songs that are introspective and feel emotionally resonant, and arrangements that continue to keep it fresh and interesting. She often uses loops and sample sounds to insert dramatic texture in her music, which was especially prominent on her self-titled 2017 debut album. The end result is adventurous, yet fully pop-compatible collage music that may not exactly be easy listening, but amply rewards repeat listens.
