SPELLLING is the moniker used by singer-songwriter, electronic artist Tia Cabral, who started out as an ambient-heavy dream pop artist putting out small, bedroom production type albums marked by prominent use of synths and multitracked vocals. She changed things up in 2021 on her third album, The Turning Wheel, as she brought in a full band with a piano plus an orchestra that included a string section, a brass section, and a harp. Her songs now have a strong theatrical feel in their melodies and arrangements, though she stays more on the ethereal and expansive side centered around fantasy narratives. Her work frequently dives into the same waters as some of the classic prog bands, like Renaissance and Camel. Her vocal mannerisms show unmistakable Kate Bush influences though without her density since Cabral tends to keeps it airy and light, with more breathing space in her music.
