Weyes Blood (pronounced "wise") is singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Natalie Mering, who creates music somewhere between folk and pop that is warm and serene, but also a bit haunting. She sings with the type of purity and clarity that has been compared justly to the late great Karen Carpenter. Her delivery style also has a bit of Joni Mitchell in the mix, which may not always be as prominent. Her songs are often built on tender and beautiful melodies, carrying strong Laurel Canyon vibes and deeply romantic undercurrents. As unlikely as it may sound, Mering's origins go back to underground rock and noise bands that she played with early on. Her music adopted a more atmospheric and expansive approach on her first solo work, 2011's moody The Outside Room.
