Jo Schornikow
Outline
Jo Schornikow is a singer-songwriter and keyboard player who is probably best known for her work in Phosphorescent's touring band, though she has jazz clubs and church organs in her background as well. In her solo work, she is an indie folk artist whose music often evokes a sense of melancholy, which was much closer to the surface in her earlier work with all her brooding tones underscored by the reverb on the guitar or a quiet keyboard action in the background. Her 2022 release, Altar saw her kick up to a mid-tempo range while still retaining a shade of sorrow in her voice. Her songs are typically built around the emotional resonance of that voice, swaying with her melodic flow.
She recorded an EP with King Creosote, toured with Phosphorescent, and played with The National.
She has been Matthew Houck's (Phosphorescent) partner in real life as well.
