Hippo Campus is an indie band that emerged as an eclectic band with a sharp pop ear on their initial EP, Bashful Creatures pretty much fully formed in 2015. Their music stylistically resides in roughly the same area as Bombay Bicycle Club and Vampire Weekend, where they display a similar ability to turn out strong melodies and shape them into memorable songs. On the other hand, the band is also fond of exploring different textures, as was the case on their second album, Bambi (2018), where they tried out parts of electronic music. They quickly moved on from the idea, but that is part of the band's allure. They seem to enjoy bringing different ideas into their arrangements and taking unexpected turns in their songs, all of which works as an interesting counterpoint to their consistently catchy output.
