The Hannah Barberas is a four-piece band that layers '80s style infectious jangle pop with '50s style vocal chorus action and pulls this odd juxtaposition off with great ease. There are also some classic country elements underneath the jangle as well, which every so often leads to glimpses of a mellowed down and easy going version of the post honky-tonk Mekons peeking through momentarily especially when vocalist Lucy Formolli takes the lead. Their songs are typically uptempo, bouncing with bassist Ian Evans' rubbery sound. They are also almost always catchy without veering too far into sweetness. The band takes pride in their DIY approach to music making which comes across very clearly and adds to the charm of their music.
