Goat

Goat is a band that combines features of psychedelic jam bands with a broad range of non-western musical traditions, including West Africa, Middle East, and Asia, among others. Their music is often upbeat and somewhat rowdy. They do not play it tight as a band. What they do instead is to build on a lot of passion, feel, and raw energy. They also amp up the psychedelia angle quite a bit with their hazy, loopy guitars, the use of reverb, crowd singing on the vocals (typically mixed level with the instruments). Then they start jamming around those strong, percussive grooves. They have an uncanny ability to create a sense of communal experience around their music, which, combined with the mystery surrounding their identities, the elaborate masks and outfits they wear when they appear as a band, contribute to the grand Goat mystique that developed in the '10s.
