Fearing is a band from Oakland, California that works mostly in the goth style: overtly dark tones, mid-tempo drones, a dire voice that can only bring you bad news, and so on. The band accesses all the ingredients that built the original goth wave in the early '80s and they do so in compelling ways. The vocalist James Rogers has the right kind of baritone. The guitars are right on spot, capturing the exact shimmering tone Robert Smith was big on in the early years of The Cure (their debut album, Shadow has some overt nods at Pornography). The riffs are quite catchy and compare well to some of the best acts of the genre that came before. The band has very strong The Sisters of Mercy vibes and they capture the essence of goth and pour their considerable talent into it.
