Emma-Jean Thackray is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, DJ, and a jazz artist with a remarkably idiosyncratic vision that combines embraces a variety of strands in the genre and merges them into a hazy, partly trippy musical experience that simply exudes good vibes. She is known primarily as a trumpet player, and a massively skilled one at that, but she also plays keyboards, guitar, bass, drums, and trombone, among other things. Her music gradually moved towards a highly eclectic mix of London's edgy nu-jazz, soul, disco, and electronic music that can go from Miles Davis-inspired fusion work to '60s pop incarnation of vocal jazz in the same song before she shifts to spiritual chants about love and unity with some sweet pop melodies in the next bit. There is quite a bit of range to her music, to say the least, and it is all executed with a lot of verve and skill.
