DJ Harrison

DJ Harrison, aka Devonne Harris, is a multi-instrumentalist producer who is probably best known for his work at the keyboards with the funky jazz outfit Butcher Brown, but also has a productive solo career on the side. Stylistically, he combines beatmaking with a lo-fi funky, jazzy soul sound to create music that may feel sketchy at a high level, but maintains a direct and immediate connection with the audience. His beats are hip-hop centric with emphasis on break beats and a J. Dilla type woozy sway.  His pieces are typically built around loops and a layered texture provided by contemporary recording techniques, occasionally involving vocals and rapping on top. He keeps his tracks short and snappy most of the time, staying on the south side of 2 and a half minute mark.
