A multifaceted talent who has been crossing genre boundaries between electronic, hip-hop, jazz, and R&B since her debut in '06, Georgia Anne Muldrow is a prolific singer, songwriter and producer with a pronounced tendency towards catchy grooves in the larger alternative R&B tradition. She has familial connections to the Los Angeles free jazz circles and uses the moniker Jyoti for her more jazz-heavy output, while the work she releases under her own name tends more towards the electronica-meets-R&B style. She was mixing things more in her earlier recordings that preceded the Muldrow/Jyoti bifurcation. Her music focuses on tightly built instrumental dance-floor jams, which especially drives Vweto series. Lost among her recent focus on instrumental music is her terrific voice that adds a warm layer to her implicitly jazzy electronic base when she add vocals to her songs.
