Crooked Colours is an electronics dance band, but that designation alone does not tell the whole story. They do use synthesizers prominently and build their music on a steady dance beat, but underneath all that is an indie pop band with clear melodies and subtle phrasing that can be enjoyed equally in non-dance contexts as well. Their songs are fairly calm and project a sense of vulnerability. Think Alt J with deeper synth effects and dance grooves rather than folk affectations. Guitarist Phil Slabber's singing mannerism is another point of comparison. That said, the songs are solid, the pace is dancey but chill at the same time, the use of the guitar helps their sound break the synth pop mold.
