Courtesy is the Chicago based duo Drew Ryan and Kirk Rawlings, whose music generally falls under the electronic music heading ... and for good reasons, since it tends to be organized around electronic instruments and effects. In reality though, they tend to incorporate a broader array of sub-genres and styles. Their current work is focused more on trip-hop beats and atmospherics, with some psychedelic-like grooves injected here and there. Their previous recordings explored a mixture of club and techno grooves, and occasionally pulled in elements of shoegaze and post-punk. This is the kind of music that could serve for many fans as a gateway to more experimental music as they tend to mix the more meandering electronic musings with the rhythmic material and include enough dissonance and herky jerky beats without getting lost in them. Their earlier work tends to be not as instantly accessible as some of their later stuff.
