Chinese American Bear

Chinese American Bear is the duo Anne Tong and Bryce Barsten, who play a bubbly, uptempo, dance-ready, sweet pop along the lines of C-Pop/Mandopop. Tong leads on the vocals as she shifts between English and Mandarin, always ready to crank up the level of enthusiastic joy in their music, backed by Barsten's upbeat and lighthearted set up. Their songs are a breeze in tone, though they occasionally flirt with dream pop ideas as the pair strolls along the shores of, say, Beach House. That said, they are mostly quite content with jumping headfirst into bubblegum pop with impossibly catchy hooks. This is perpetually happy, at times downright euphoric, music that makes the listener want to skip and hop down the street instead of walking.
