Cheekface

Cheekface is a band that operates at two different levels: musically they combine power pop and indie rock, also adding some upbeat post-punk accents, while lyrically they are packed with wit and irreverent humor taking aim at modern life, social politics, human relations, and whatever else strikes them as absurd. The humor is drawn primarily from the lyrics (as opposed to sound effects or silly voices) and it comes from a place of affection as vocalist Greg Katz delivers his lines in a cheeky speak-singing style reminiscent of Stephen Malkmus (of Pavement). Amanda Tannen's bouncy bass is also a big part of the band's sound. Their songs are melodically catchy, up-tempo affairs that do not have much room for sentimentality or soul bearing. The arrangements are straightforward, and the band plays with all the earnestness of any other fun-loving indie band.
