A Burial At Sea

A Burial At Sea is a guitar/drums duo (Dara Tohill and Patrick Blaney, respectively) that keeps a broad stylistic palette in their work. They frequently operate in the post-rock world, making use of sonic drones and surges, while other times they dive head-first into idioms of metal with bursting guitars and heavy drums, often only to pull back to expose a contemplative bottom underneath that surface. There are also passages in their pieces that slide into more accessible rock bits, but those do not last as long, nor are they as common. Their pieces are instrumental, enhanced by well-placed brass instrumentation and built around dramatic tones and transitions, usually following a narrative structure in a prog-like fashion.
