Bad Waitress is a punk band from Toronto that has all the chaotic energy one would expect to see in a punk band, but also has a more reserved gear where they can funnel all that manic sound into well-written and well-executed soulful songs without sacrificing much of their attack or the swagger. When they are in the cranked up mode and are pushing forward, they come across as a modern day L7 or Babes in Toyland in their '90s peak, bouncing off the walls with similar raw power. When they take a step back and turn it down just a notch, maybe half a notch, they start tacking closer to the Sonic Youth territory. Take it down another notch and every now and then an unexpected pop tendency starts peeking over the fence. It does not happen often, but it is somewhere in there.
