Fat Possum is a record label that started out in '91 as a label dedicated to recording Mississippi based blues. Some of the artists in this period were R.L. Burnside, Charles Caldwell,CeDell Davis, T-Model Ford, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and so on. As this generation of musicians started to die out, Fat Possum turned to a new generation of artists inspired by blues, such as The Black Keys. In the '00s the label decided to cast a wider net and began to attract a series of indie rock, indie pop, and hip-hop acts, such as: Andrew Bird, El-P, Soccer Mommy, Spiritualized, Tennis, and The Walkmen.
Fat Possum uses RED MUSIC, a subsidiary of Sony Music, as its distributor.
