W. H. Lung
Outline
W.H. Lung (sometimes, just WH Lung) is a synth pop band that also borrows elements from krautrock, specifically the motorik beat, often associated with bands such as Can and Neu!. They combine their strongly synth driven pop and dance grooves with an overall dark tone that is similar to the way bands like Depeche Mode did in the '80s as well as LCD Soundsystem in the '00s. They also frequently tip their hats to nu-disco. Their vocalist, Joe Evans, goes through a range of textures in his bag of tricks, using his falsetto, going high, going low, whelping, mumbling through the songs while the band keeps the sharp and steady beats and the hooks. The band was a trio on their first album (Incidental Music, 2019), and originally focused on some post-punk elements and a little psychedelia.
