Virginia Wing is the electronic duo Alice Merida Richards and Sam Pillay, both keyboard players, who create a kind of pop music that lies off the beaten path, with some experimental qualities. They build intricate rhythmic structures and layered textures through loops and multi-tracking, combined with a pulse and pop friendly melodies that altogether add up to a kind of off kilter sound reminiscent of Cate Le Bon in a way. Saxophonist Chris Duffing from XAM Duo has been a reliable collaborator in their recent albums. He brings his own coloring to the slightly dissonant activities going on in the background. Vocalist Alice Merida Richardson's voice and her style has a touch of Trish Keenan (of Broadcast) as well as a cadence that can be reminiscent of Laurie Anderson especially when she is speak-singing.
