Southern Avenue is a five piece Memphis based band that captures the classic soul/blues sound with great accuracy. Not for nothing was their first album released under the Stax label. At the heart of their music is singer Tierinii Jackson who pretty much tears into the songs with complete command, backed by the vocals of their drummer and her sister, Tikyra Jackson. The band is led by guitarist Ori Naftaly, whose style mixes blues and funk with a bit of an additional rock edge. Their music is typically uptempo and high energy. They are a tight ensemble that plays solid grooves with powerful delivery that evoke a strong retro soul feel, often complete with a brilliant horn section as an always appreciated bonus.
