The Soft Pink Truth

When electronic artist Drew Daniel wants to step outside the deeply experimental regions of electronic music he creates with his partner M.C. Schmidt as the duo Matmos, he slides right into the world of dance music as The Soft Pink Truth. Each album he has created under this moniker explores aspects of house music, classical and ambient type sounds, and a combination of disco, soul, and fusion in some fashion. He also has a tendency to subvert forms and expectations, especially in the way he transforms punk and hardcore songs into club pieces, and incorporates the dissonant cadences of modernist classical music into his ambient work at times. His 2020 album Shall We Go On Sinning... is a good example of the latter where his music continually twists and turns stylistically, alternating between creepy atmospherics and joyful club grooves.
