Snail Mail is the stage name for Lyndsey Jordan, a singer-songwriter, guitar player from Baltimore whose sound has been developing from her lo-fi, Liz Phair-like soft indie rock base to a pop-adjacent indie rock comparable to someone like Soccer Mommy. Her music is often driven by her slightlyl breathy vocals, but her guitar work is excellent and frequently steals the show even when it is not in the spotlight. She typically sticks to a bare guitar sound without many pedals but brings that extra touch with her chord choices, which gives her songs additional depth. Her songs tend to be more lyrical than melodic, and she delivers them with a sense of earnestness. In 2021's Valentine, she broadened her arrangements to include synths, strings, and the piano more.
