Shamir Bailey, who goes by his first name alone, is a prolific singer-songwriter who has been working in a broad stylistic range, but mostly in the indie pop and indie rock genres, though without any strict adherence to the established idioms of either. His music has some post-punk elements that surface occasionally, but more often than not, is happy to be drifting into a grunge type rock with distorted guitars and rougher edges (see 2020's Cataclysm). He is also no stranger to ballads and folk-tinged songs. His songs typically have a nice fluid quality about them. They have clearly articulated melodies, with strong and confident hooks, paired with sharp arrangements that make his music seem to be flowing effortlessly. He sings in a distinctive countertenor that has an androgynous quality.
