Proper. (with a period) is an emo band from Brooklyn driven by singer/guitarist Eric Garlington's intensely personal songs dealing with alienation, how fits in with the society at large, and other topics that are near and dear to his heart. His songs have the dramatic ups and downs and the big emotional peaks that are bread and butter to the genre as a whole. There are some vibes of Silkworm and similar '90s art grunge bands drifting in and out of their music as well. Garlington is a strong songwriter and a singer who can shift between the intense and the ironic in his vocals. As instrumentalists, the trio meets the challenge that the flow of their music demands, Garlington does plenty of shredding, Natasha Johnson's bass provides all the pounding that is needed, while Eli Watson is a beast on drums.
