Sevdaliza is the name used by Dutch singer-songwriter Sevda Alizadeh (or سِودا علیزاده), who brings an intensely artistic vision and an experimental approach to pop music in ways that are comparable to someone like FKA twigs, which is a fairly apt comparison at the moment. Her meticulous arrangements are often sparse, opening up some space around her. Stylistically she shifts between orchestral ballads and dance-oriented electronic music, which takes her into trip-hop grooves, synth pop and sometimes just old fashioned conventional pop with a slight twist somewhere. Her Iranian background occasionally seeps into her music where she adopts traces of Persian harmonies and tones. She is generally restrained about those influences, but she has recorded a few songs in Persian as well.
