The Reds, Pinks and Purples
Outline
The Reds, Pinks and Purples is singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Glenn Donaldson who taps into a swirly, dreamy sound that was made popular by a number of major acts in the late '80s and early '90s. It is not that hard to trace the impact of the pre-Disintegration period The Cure on his melodic flow. The reach of the classic 4AD roster from that era, including Lush and to some extent, late Cocteau Twins, can also be felt especially in the way he executes the shimmer in the instrumentation. His songs tend to be mid-tempo affairs with a wistful tone where his vocals often have echoes of Morrissey's distinct styling and articulation. His work is generally gentle and relaxing, and easy to slide right into even when he adds a little punch to his songs every now and then.
