Rainbow Kitten Surprise

Rainbow Kitten Surprise, aka RKS, is an indie band that has gone through some changes over the years. They started out with a distinct style that merged indie folk and indie pop in tones that were not entirely unlike Alt-J, with vocalist Ela Melo moving from singing to speak-singing to soft rapping with agility. She has a great presence in all their songs, also contributing rich imagery through her lyrics. Their more recent work gravitates strongly towards the pop side, positioning itself somewhere in the R&B flavored contemporary pop world but with an aggressive move towards a much bigger, arena pop sound, especially pronounced in their 2025 album bone.
