PUP
Outline
PUP (acronym for Pathetic Use of Potential) is a Toronto based pop punk band that performs with a lot of energy and refined power. Their music embodies all the main features of the sub-genre: Loud guitars with strong hooks, screaming vocals (though in this case, with an effective downshift as needed), a predilection to rushing through the songs like a speed racer, and an ability to employ big sonic gestures at every opportunity. No wasted potential there. The band plays as a tight unit, and they bring a level of vibrancy to the music that goes beyond just pumping up the audience. Vocalist Stefan Babcock pushes through the songs with a relentless focus on maintaining a high octane delivery. What stands out the most though is how catchy their tunes are and the band's high level of execution.
They first formed under the name Topanga in 2011, but changed their name to PUP in 2013.
