Pearl Charles is a singer-songwriter whose music ranges from pop to country, all of which comes with fairly strong '70s influences. It is hard not to get the vibes of The Eagles circa The Long Run or Fleetwood Mac from her work. Or Abba when she is in a dancey groove. Or The Carpenters when she is doing a sweet mid tempo ballad. Her instrumentation taps into the same vein, from her organ sound to the way the guitars jangle or the sax sounds, as well as the way her vocal styling that carries the color scheme of the period. That said, she clearly has the songwriting chops to make all of that a stylistic choice rather than some nostalgic gimmick. The fact that she gets the grooves and the sound right also helps in that regard. Her melodies are sharp and instantly accessible to the listener and her songs are fun and entertaining.
