Pearl Charles
Outline
Pearl Charles is a singer-songwriter whose music has a strong dance floor component with a focus on the disco style, though her earlier work ranged along pop and country lines. The common denominator seems to be her love for the '70s, which shows in her Abba influences in her recent releases, though vibes of The Eagles (circa The Long Run) or Fleetwood Mac or even The Carpenters were never too far off from her records. Her songwriting chops keep her songs sharp and instantly accessible to the listener. The throwback quality of her music permeates her instrumentation choices, from her organ sound to the guitars jangle or the use of the saxophone, as well as the way her vocal styling is colored by that particular period.

She was part of Driftless Singers and played drums for The Blank Tapes before she emerged as a solo artist.
