Oneida
Outline
Oneida is a New York based experimental post-rock band that has been playing together since 1997, having gone through a series of slow moving mutations during that time. By 2001's Anthem of the Moon, the band was beginning to expand from noise rock into new sonic territories, including krautrock, doom metal, minimalist music, drones, and occasional avant-garde jazz, among others. They explored psychedelic grooves along the way as well, which is perhaps not so surprising for a band known for their improvisational excursions in live shows. Members have also been playing in other bands, collaborating, or putting out solo work that continued to stretch their sound. Their 2022 release, Success, was a kind of full circle moment as the band returned to their hard-driving guitar-centric garage roots.
Liars, Gnod, Horse Lords, Osees, Trans Am
They collaborated with post-minimalist composer Rhys Chetham on their joint 2016 release What's Your SIgn?
Drummer Kid Million played with Spiritualized, Royal Trux and Boredoms, while also releasing music as Man Forever. He is also one half of his duo with multi-instrumentalist Bobby Matador as People of the North.
Matador's band, OTOH, is called New Pope.
Gutarist Shahin Motia played with Ex Models and is currently also a member of Knyfe Hyts.
