The Oh Hellos are the Heath siblings, Tyler and Maggie, an indie folk meets indie pop duo backed by a large group of regular musicians that provide a full band experience with a banjo, a violin, multiple guitars, and two drum sets, among others. Their songs are typically peppy, following good up/down dynamics tying into big choruses. They are melodically well constructed and are performed with rich instrumentation that alternates between a sparse and spacious sound and the crowded blockbuster peaks in a well-timed manner. There is also a significant sense of spiritual uplift that comes from their songs, with explicitly Christian themes that appear with some frequency. Their music also draws a good chunk of inspiration from Celtic musical traditions, while lyrically, they tend to turn to pieces of literature (CS Lewis, Patrick Rothfuss, Greek mythology).
