The Lumineers are an indie-folk band from Denver that tends to remain close to its traditional roots, though updated for a more modern audience. They started out with finger-picked acoustic guitars meshed with, cello, upbeat snare, and percussive toms. Their career was propelled partially by the success of Ho Hey, which combines a snappy melody with old-fashioned foot-stomping. The band steered away from the formula afterwards, giving way to more atmospheric pieces that focused on the emotional texture rather than melodies. As the band continued to accrue popular and critical acclaim, big sing-along anthems and a higher tempo began to show up every now and then, but the songs typically retained their somber tone, low tempo and intimate feel.
