Molchat Doma

Molchat Doma (more like, Молчат Дома, i.e., Quiet at Home is a post-punk band from Minsk, Belarus who plays a mixture of post-punk styles clustered around early goth, darkwave and darker shades of new wave. They were aligned more with the Joy Division style early on, before they began to shift towards a New Order and Depeche Mode type sound, especially around their third album, Monument (2020). They build their beats using a drum machine, whose relentless steadiness and the gated snare effect give them a strong early '80s vibe. Their music is dance-adjacent and has pop-like melodic presence but obviously not in a joyful way. There is a certain melancholic tone to vocalist Yahor Shkutko's voice and a palpable sense of loss in his delivery that carries across the language barrier.
