Mitski

Mitski (full name: Mitski Miyawaki) is a singer-songwriter who started with mostly piano/keyboards driven ballads in her first two self-released albums and grew into melodically well-articulated and sophisticated indie rock afterwards. Her music is not dominated by a particular tempo or mood as her songs span from slowed down melancholic vocal-focused songs to grungy pieces with distorted guitar bursts. She has been gravitating towards a more pop feel recently, with her use of swelling instrumental arrangements as well as some dance-floor beats that weave in and out of her music ... which are all that is a good stylistic fit for her music given the relatable nature of her melodies. She has a strong voice with good control that glides along her song dynamics. Her lyrics are of the personal, confessional type.
