Memes are the duo of cousins John and Paul McLinden on guitar and bass, respectively, with their laptop on drums. They make cheery and upbeat post-punk music that is pared down to its essentials. The songs are quick and catchy, typically done in 2 minutes or less. They do a good job at tapping into some of that late '70s early post-punk energy. The band's use of preconfigured drums beats does not hamper their song dynamics, and there is some variety to the beats they lay down. Their lyrics are observational in nature, fairly witty and fun.
