Magdalena Bay

Magdalena Bay is a synth pop duo based in Los Angeles that produces music that is driven hard by dance grooves built around synths and electronic percussion effects. The music is mostly straightforward pop of the sweet and bouncy variety presumably intended for an audience that wants to keep it light, musically at least. Singer Mica Tenenbaum leads with her young and breathy voice, while producer Matthew Lewin builds layers of synth sounds that check all the dance driven synth pop boxes. There are some moments in their work where he inserts passages that create interesting layering. That said, the band's priority seems to be creating quality dance pop, and that is something they are exceedingly good at.
