Laurence-Anne
Outline
Laurence-Anne Charest Gagné is an indie artist that emerged from Montreal's rich pop environment, sporting a style that borrows a little from electronic pop and has elements of dream pop embedded inside a variety of styles ranging from '80s new wave to psychedelic folk. There is usually a strong rhythmic component to her music that keeps her well-grounded in some percussive phrase or solid beat even as her vocals float in a slightly woozy tone. She sings primarily in French and in a kind of breathy, soft voice that is common in modern pop, though she moves fluidly across the pop landscape melodically and stylistically, which she pulls off with ease due to her considerable songwriting talent. Her earlier work, 2019's Première apparition was more straight up indie rock that also displayed a strong folksy streak, reflecting her origins to some extent.
She also plays the guitar on La Sécurité.
