Joshua Redman

Joshua Redman is a composer, band leader and a saxophone virtuoso, widely acclaimed for his long form improvisations and highly melodic style. He has been one of the more prominent names in today's jazz since he emerged in the early '90s. His music falls mostly under the broad post-bop heading with a sound that is rooted strongly in the traditions of the genre. Especially in the beginning of his career, he also worked in hard bop. He takes on projects that push him in different directions with some regularity, such as the fusion type, hip-hop inspired rhythms on Freedom in the Groove in 1994, the edgier post-bop of The Bad Plus on their joint 2015 album, or the classical music crossover he had with Brooklyn Rider on Sun on Sand (2019).
