Bass player and composer Christian McBride is a major contemporary jazz artist who has had a very productive career as a solo artist, a bandleader, and a collaborator. He has pretty much played with a whole who's who of modern jazz greats since he started in the early '90s. He has fronted a number of distinct bands over the years, some of them providing different types of outlets: he is generally more adventurous with the New Jawn set up; but leans more on the swing side with this Big Band; while he plays a more conventional post-bop with different flavors with most of his other bands, including Inside Straight and as a member of the Joshua Redmon Quartet. His preferred instrument is the upright bass, though he spent some quality time with an electric bass early on when he was exploring his soul and funk influences.
Joshua Redmon, Ron Carter, Wayne Shorter, Roy Hargrove
