The Bad Plus is a fusion oriented jazz band that originally led by pianist Ethan Iverson (2001-2017), then replaced by pianist Orrin Evans (2017-2021). They emerged in 2022 as a quartet with guitarist Ben Monder and saxophonist Christ Speed joining the drums/bass core of David King and Reid Anderson. Their fusion is grounded strongly in rock and funk, with the band frequently doing covers from a wide range of sources (Aphid Twins, Nirvana, Stravinsky, etc). Their current line up follows the same approach as the constant members King and Anderson continue to provide the same well-oiled percussive drive underneath. Their trio years with Iverson and Evans had their own distinct sound of course. But those minor variations aside, this is a band has been delivering a powerful blend of rock and jazz since their early days in Minnesota.
