The Bad Plus

The Bad Plus is a fusion oriented jazz band originally led by pianist Ethan Iverson (2001-2017), then replaced by pianist Orrin Evans (2017-2021), that has been delivering a powerful blend of rock and jazz that is also grounded in funk, going back to their early days in Minnesota. Both iterations worked as a trio with its own distinct sound, or course, but shared the same overall approach as they regularly selected songs from a wide range of sources to cover (Aphid Twins, Nirvana, Stravinsky, etc.).  They re-emerged in 2022 as a quartet with guitarist Ben Monder and saxophonist Christ Speed joining the drums/bass core of David King and Reid Anderson, which changed the overall flavor of their music once again, though they retained the same well-oiled percussive drive underneath.
