Iguana Death Cult is a band based in Rotterdam that produces high powered, energetic music with a raw garage rock feel. They borrow generously from roadhouse rock and rockabilly, but can also turn on a dime and start playing bouncy new wave beats combined with surf guitars. Their first album was more heavily punk and noise-oriented, which has toned down since then. The band has a tendency to push the tempo up even with songs that might have otherwise been nice mid tempo ballads. Their songs are often driven by Arjen van Opstal's relentlessly pulsating bass. The guitars are dynamic and provide a diverse range of flavors: they can be jagged and artsy in one song, distorted and loud in another, not to mention the good old wah-wah pedal, with often subtle shifts in between.
